So lately I have discovered that I couldn't see street signs when I was driving home at night. Not wanting to kill myself in a steaming mass of twisted metal I decided it was time to get my eyes checked. It has been a while since I was in last so it seemed a good reason to get checked out. The good news is that I have one perfect eye. But there is a stigmatisim in the other. Now I have been shackled with glasses and contacts. On Ben's suggestion I got some contacts to compare with glasses. Ben is a contact professional. He has had them since Jr. High. So most of the time he laughs at my problems getting them in and then getting them out. I have gotten pretty good but I also have a habit of folding the contacts inside my eyes. Slightly painful. So in short I try to trade off. Contacts around the horse so that way he won't grab them off my face and smuch them. Glasses ok at work or if I just want to throw them on to drive to the store. Movies are a contact kind of thing. Glasses nice for reading at night. As you can tell its kind of a combo. The other option is that I could just get an eye-patch and walk around using one eye, kind of like a pirate.

Contacts and Glasses

Well-loved Books
Oh I love to read! Since I am assuming that most people like exactly what I do then that would mean everyone loves to read. I have shelves that are double stacked, trunks full of piles of books, and stackes in the corners. Most of them are almost organized. There are some Jane Austin books tucked by old History books. Some church books by Jules Verne. Ones about dragons near ones about Greek gods. Or Vampires near C.S. Lewis. Well I guess you get the point there isn't really any organization. I figure they can all get cosy together.

Recently I started to reread a series. 13 books with the final one set to come out next year. Some of them are hardback and in nice condition. But most of them are $4 paperbacks. I realized some of them are in a terrifing state! After being read several dozen times those paperback covers just tend to fall off. Here are my two favorite. I like this one. Pealing cover and tape holding it together.

But here is the coup de gras. Front and back cover completely gone. Spine held on by tape. Really if you can't tell from the picture it has a new cover brought to you by more tape. Plus several pages ready to fall out. Nice. I think this one falls into the catagory of classy!

Kentucky Derby
As a horse person I find the Kentucky Derby super exciting. All those 3 year old Thoroughbreds getting ready for a mile and a quarter race. Looking psychotic on the walk to the gates. Dancing sideways and rolling their eyes. Awesome. Not that I would go near one of those hyped-up ponies...wait I think Rocko is a rack reject. Hum. Wonder what he looked like? No better not think about that. Well, ever since we got our own race track baby I love to check the pedigrees to see if any of the ponies are related to mine. Normally they have some sort of connection if rather distant. This year Rocko had a cousin in the Derby, Master of Hounds. They have the same grandpa: Mr. Prospector. Sadly, Master of Hounds did not win the Derby. This year the winner was Animal Kingdom (no relation). I am looking forward to seeing him run in the Preakness. Hopefully we will have a new Triple Crown winner!Tuesday, May 10, 2011
