Hanging a Shelf - a very manly job

This week I decided to make a much needed improvement to our basement apartment. Several months ago I brought home two shelves for MB to hang. He quickly grabbed the chance to use his power tools and hung one! After that he was thirsty from being so manly. So after a five minute break he never got around to hanging the second one. So mild nagging began. When are you going to hang the other shelf? Wouldn't that shelf look nice on the wall? Do you have time to hang the shelf today? and so on...Finally I just came to the realization that I could do it myself. Why not? I am a competent woman. I have been around tools before and I watched him put up the first shelf. And think how proud my husband will be that I can hang that shelf by myself. Foolishly, I decided that I was qualified.
So this week I pulled out the power tools, figured out how they worked, and made some measurements. Happily it all went smoothly. I got the screws in the wall, even making them the correct distance apart. Sadly I didn't realize the importance of a level. My shelf ended up a little crooked, but if you balance heavy times on one side (like that nice disc) and light items on the other (those cute blocks Mom made) it all evens out. After fixing my small, very common mistake I thought the shelf perfect. MB came home took one look at the wall, then said "Well, that's a little sideways." Oh well, I will have to find some other way to impress him.

Horse Show Advice #67

Horse Show Advice #67: Jump the right Height. Last weekend Rocko and I were finally able to jump 3' fences at the show. This has been a long time coming. Since he has such long legs jumping 2'9'' has been a little too easy. We had a pretty good show. I was a little nervous our first time out but then we improved after that. My favorite jump is always the long-run to the oxer, but Rocko loved the three stride. After looking at our pictures Rocko looks like he want to be jumping 3'9''. The best part was that we had lots of friends to show with! Angie and Hoarse decided to come to a hunter show with us. They did great once Angie realized they weren't being timed.
